Why did you (and your colleagues) write this paper? What was its main purpose?
JORGE RODRIGUEZ-PARDO
Our paper describes a well-documented case of stroke caused by a carotid floating thrombus related to COVID-19 vaccination. We wanted to share our experience with the scientific community to contribute to a better understanding of this disease. This case could inspire future research on the topic.
T&H
What are the main conclusions?
JORGE RODRIGUEZ-PARDO
We conclude that vaccine-induced immune thrombosis may cause isolated large vessel occlusion stroke in absence of severely altered coagulation parameters or venous thrombosis.
T&H
What are the paper's implications? - to the public? -to medical professionals?
JORGE RODRIGUEZ-PARDO
We acknowledge that stroke is a rare complication of COVID-19 vaccines and should not discourage their use.
It encourages stroke physicians to consider vaccine-induced immune thrombocytopenia as a potential cause of unusual carotid and cerebral artery thrombosis in recently vaccinated patients.
T&H
Are the findings clinically significant? Should the findings change practice?
JORGE RODRIGUEZ-PARDO
As a single case report it lacks significant evidence for a change of clinical practice although it contributes to cumulative knowledge and raises questions for future studies.
